The Roundabout

A Chinese philosopher once stated, stand in a single place long enough and the entire world will pass you by.

On Christmas Island that place would be the roundabout.

Coming from the top of the island, there is a Y intersection, with the lower road on the island. No U-turns allowed.

As such you drive past the Phosphate loading plant, and down to the roundabout

At the roundabout round you go, and back down the road to the lower part of the Island.
As everybody has to go around the roundabout, the locals have put up blackboards. You can see them on the photo to the right. On these blackboards, they write up all sorts of messages. With the rain on Christmas Island, the messages last about 1 week before they are washed away.

All in all a very simple way to communicate whats going on locally.
